Global Times (China) features the exhibition Where Great Writers Gather: Treasures of the British Library in Shanghai.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë is one of the most well-known foreign novels among Chinese readers, who will be able to see the famous line from the concluding chapter ("Reader - I married him") at the exhibit. (Chen Shasha)
The Daily Mail also mentions Jane Eyre in an article on 'age-gap affairs' in books.
In books, as in life, no one is taken aback by a woman with an older man — think Jane Eyre, Emma or Rebecca — yet fictional relationships between an older woman and younger man are depicted as doomed, often deviant. (Patricia Nicol)
According to a list of the '10 of the Biggest Cat Lovers of All Time' on Culture Cheat Sheet, 'you probably don’t know [that] Emily, Charlotte, and sister Anne were three of the biggest cat lovers of all time', a fact which takes us by surprise too.
2. The Brontë sisters
The Brontë sisters all had cats. [!!!]
You might know the novels “Wuthering Heights” and “Jane Eyre,” the works of Emily Brontë and Charlotte Brontë, respectively. What you probably don’t know is Emily, Charlotte, and sister Anne were three of the biggest cat lovers of all time. All three enjoyed having cats at home. Emily penned an essay lovingly praising cats, writing, “I can say with sincerity that I like cats; also I can give very good reasons why those who despise them are wrong. A cat is an animal who has more human feelings than almost any other being.” (Jason Rossi)
